Confession time: I don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to mesh.
I stopped playing years ago during the transition from system bodies to mesh because it was too confusing. Upon my return, I learned just enough from Strawberry Singh’s blog to get my Maitreya Lara body + Catya head going with some trial and error, without really understanding what I was doing. I understand the basics – alpha parts, the layers, how appliers work, but that’s it. I’m too much of an impatient know-it-all to read instructions.
Yesterday I was trying a shirt demo, and someone in the Marketplace review mentioned that the shirt troubles with Lara 5.0. It dawned on me that I was still on the 4.1 body, and should probably upgrade, especially with the still-mysterious baked on mesh coming.
So I went to Maitreya’s store, followed the directions to have the newest Lara re-delivered, and figured while I was doing all this, I would go to Gatwa to upgrade my Catya head at the same time.
This is probably a good point to stop and take a long moment to appreciate how beautifully absurd the future is.
So I went home and unpacked everything, then proceeded to organize my inventory and start replacing objects. I wish I took pictures, it was a tragic comedy. All my problems were minor and fixable with a little trial and error, but they were still a little frustrating. I don’t blame Maitreya, I blame my own ignorance.
In the end I kind of got her back to normal. It’s about time commit to gaining a full understanding of mesh. When I do I’ll probably Tataku for a blog login so I can post my progress and share what I learn.
